my ecological footprint
I would need 4.9 planet Earths to provide enough resources for me, and to support my lifestyle, I would need 21.8 global acres of the Earth's productive area. The areas that I used the most were transportation and food. I think of an ecological footprint as how many resources one person uses and if those resources are renewable, Like paper and plastic. This footprint calculator showed me how one person can make an impact, like if I was to recycle my plastic water bottles. It also showed me that I used a lot on transportation, to try to improve that I would love to get a Chevy Tahoe hybrid, but that is not realistic, so I can carpool with my friend, Aaron, on the weekends we go back home, instead of driving separate cars, so we can save gas. I’m glad that I saw my ecological footprint because I had no clue how my lifestyle could impact the Earth. It makes me want to recycle more often and conserve water. I never thought about the process of how the food got to my plate from the farm before and it makes me aware that everything I eat comes from a different place. Like the food needs to be transported from the farm to a grocery store which takes gas and a lot of electricity and then I drive to the store and use up more gas. I could tell my mom to start a garden in her backyard to help with the ecological footprint. This week I will recycle all my plastic water bottles, because i drink a lot of water and always throw them away, or I can use a refillable cup from now on to reduce my plastic waste.

I think everyone could recycle more often. Lately it seems like most people's excuse for not recycling is they forget to or they are to lazy to do it. Like my brother is too lazy to recycle at my house. I try and remind him that we recycle but that doesn't always work.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a lot like mine! I need five planet earths to support my life style. I can also really agree with the recycling "issue", I need to work on that myself! Getting the Chevy Tahoe would be so awesome too. Good luck on recycling your water bottles this week!
ReplyDeleteHaha first thing I noticed was that I'm a guy and would require 1.4 more planets then you. That makes me wonder why my number is so high because I don't think that I use too many resources. I agree with you on the food/ travel because i absolutely love to eat all the time and travel about a half an hour to work each day. I think that you should try to carpool because it really does add up. Every chance I get I ride with my room mate to save same gas, every little bit helps. :D
ReplyDeleteyou should start a garden in the back yard my great grandmother would always grab stuff from her garden and use it. it is a lot cheaper and tastes better in my opinion
